The filmmaker Sébastien Betbeder joins the national jury 2017.
Sébastien Betbeder, French film director and scriptwriter, has directed several short films that have been rewarded in previous editions of the Clermont-Ferrand Short FilmFestival. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, he joins Le Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains, in Tourcoing. He then directs a number of short films, followed by a feature-length film in the fantasy genre, Nuage (Cloud), released in cinemas in 2007.

Next come Les nuits avec Théodore (Nights with Théodore) and 2 automnes 3 hivers (2 Autumns, 3 Winters) – selected in the ACID Programme at Cannes in 2013), a « dramedy » which follows the lives of characters in their 30’s and their preoccupations. The film is distributed in over ten countries.
Fun fact: some scenes were shot in Auvergne.

In 2014, he directs Inupiluk and Le Film que nous tournerons au Groenland (The Film We Will Shoot in Greenland) which would become part of a Greenland trilogy. Le Voyage au Groenland (The Trip To Greenland), feature film shot throughout 2015 makes up the final chapter in the trilogy. This film premiered in Cannes in May 2016 as part of the ACID programme, and was awarded Special Jury Mention at the Francophone Film Festival in Namur.

Released in cinemas in April of the same year, the fourth feature film by Sebastien Betbeder Marie et les naufragés (Marie and the misfits) stars Pierre Rochefort, Eric Cantona, Vimala Pons, Damien Chapelle, André Wilms and Emmanuelle Riva in what is resolutely a literary comedy.
