L’Atelier | Temporary film school

L’Atelier is an inspirational space dedicated to film making creativity and media literacy.

There, during five days, young visitors of the festivals and the general public can watch and learn from a dozen ongoing workshops. Each workshop highlights one aspect of filmmaking, from make-up to photography, from recording sound or a film score to CGI or VFX, from acting to animation or AR.

This event is organized and coordinated by Sauve qui peut le court métrage, the Clermont-Ferrand School of Architecture, the Groupe ESC Clermont School of Management and ARFIS Villeurbanne. Come over, watch, ask questions, discuss with participants, be inspired.

The traditional themed exhibit Se lécher les bobines will take place at the Hôtel du Département (René-Cassin Hall). Food and film will be on the menu of this playful and much-anticipated annual exhibit. Masterpieces of food and film alike guarantee to be a feast for everyone.

Anatomy of the Lab will celebrate its tenth year! Students from a number of French art schools will share gallery space with respected artists at the Camille-Claudel Center.

The intention is to start a conversation between the viewers and the creators of the films in the Lab 2018 competition at the Festival. A few unannounced surprises will also be in store for the tenth anniversary.

Les Grands du Court will display the portraits of many remarkable filmmakers, who have participated to the festival’s Expresso talks throughout the past four decades.

These portraits, made by talented festival photographers over the years, will line the walls of the Maison de la Culture throughout the festival.

Robert Aldrich said that “a striking face is better than a pretty one”.

A collection of photos of monumental actors whose strong faces, presence and charisma have made a permanent impression on our retinas. The exhibit will spotlight these striking faces of cinema, through original posters and images.

The Photography Center at Hôtel Fontfreyde will honor of International Jury member and British photographer Seamus Murphy. The retrospective entitled Life Is In Many Days will take place from January 18 to March 31. Murphy will be present for the opening on Wednesday, February 7.

Food is also the theme of the No Pain, No Gain exhibit. It features graphic design on the theme of bakeries, a European perfume exhibit with the students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Amsterdam and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts of Lyon. This buffet will be on exhibit, from February 3 to 10.
