Paz Fábrega studied Communications at the University of Costa Rica and Photography at the Colegio Universitario de Alajuela.
In 2005, her graduation film, Temporal, shot in a rural village in Costa Rica, has been in competition at many festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, and received the Grand Prix in Biarritz Film Festival.
She was selected for the scriptwriting residency programme at the Binger Filmlab, where she wrote the script for her first feature film, Agua fría de mar.
The film has been screened at more than 40 international film festivals, and received prizes in Lima, London and Paris and was also a finalist for the Sundance NHK Award. She also won various prizes such as the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival, one of the most important awards for a Central American film. She was selected for the Cannes Film Festival Residence de la Cinefondation in 2009.
Trailer Agua fría de mar
Her second feature film, Viaje, won the Cine en Construcción prize at the Costa Rica Film Festival in 2014 and premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. It was the first film from Central America to be selected in competition. It received stellar reviews from the New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and Indiewire.
In 2006 she established a production company in Costa Rica: Temporal films.
