“Since Ikki Films’ inception in 2011, we’ve tried hard to produce films rooted in experience and experimentation. Pushing the bounds of narration, searching for a beauty that’s sharp rather than smooth, inviting the viewer towards doubt, confusion and mystery. We lead young, talented individuals in the field of animation toward the bustling world of images and narrative; we believe each of their creations will find an audience and move them. As a small-scale company – with 10 films in 10 years – we’re lucky enough to see that our instincts have been correct: our films have reached every continent, appeared in over seven hundred festivals and have received over two hundred awards.
We wanted to use this programme to show our kind of films, ones with a sometimes strange beauty, films that have made us laugh, that have charmed and moved us, that have stayed with us; films that continue to make us want to produce films and discover new artists who rekindle our excitement in the crowded privacy of a movie theater.
We’d like to give a big thanks to the producers of Procirep who have honored us with this award, to the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival for giving us this space to express ourselves, and to all those without whom we would not be here – the artists and collaborators whose precious work makes is possible for us to be here, in this programme.
After a frustrating, and in many ways disturbing, 2020, at a still-unsettled moment in time, we hope that our programme will move you, make you laugh and whisk you away. And who knows, perhaps one day we’ll be able to chat face to face over a glass of wine or a dish of truffade.”
