After studies in photography and theater, Julie Lopes Curval directed two plays which she also wrote. Co-writer of Une affaire qui roule by Eric Véniard and Rôle de sa vie by François Favrat, she wrote her own first film Bord de Mer which received the Caméra d’Or in 2002.
She next directed Toi et moi with Marion Cotillard and Julie Depardieu in 2005, followed by Mères et filles with Catherine Deneuve and Marina Hand. 2014 saw the release Le beau monde with Ana Girardot and Bastien Bouillon. For Arte, in 2015, she directed L’annonce, based on the novel of the same name by Marie-Hélène Lafon. It was awarded the Directing Prize at the Rochelle Film Festival.
