Panorama 2016: Space
Star systems
“Stardust” by Mischa Rozema (Netherlands, 2013)
A few years before the Wright brothers built the first successful aircraft, filmmakers were already sending their audience out in space, on odysseys through improbable cosmos, on hazardous planets full of traps, into flying saucers, or with alien visitors crossing space and time.
From the early years of cinema, space travel has addressed the spectators’ need for escape, dream and adventure, while revealing the fantasies and questions that came with progress and shifting lifestyles.
From pure fantasy to documented reconstruction, from B movies to blockbusters, these sci-fi films have entertained all generations, while questioning man’s position and future in the universe.
We are pleased to invite you to a retrospective of the third kind, on an otherworldly quest for new frontiers out there, towards the infinite and beyond!
