Short Film Market 2016 – 31st Edition
The 31st edition of the Short Film Market promises ever greater European presence with the arrival of « In the Palace Film Festival ». This cultural event was founded in 2003 in Balchik (Bulgaria), and it has become a reference for short films and for discovering new talents throughout the entire region.
Under the leadership of the Spanish ICAA (equivalent to the French CNC), a Spanish pavilion of 40m2 will welcome you this year, with nearly all the regions of Spain represented. It will be a hot spot that you won’t want to miss.
Portugal, with IndieLisboa and Portugal Film, will strengthen its presence along with the Vila do Conde festival and short film agency.
Adastra, a French production and distribution company, will join the ranks of the Short Film Market with a very specific focus: virtual reality. They have already proved themselves with the production of a number of short films and music videos. They will have lots of things to tell us and show us. Get ready to be blown away! Don’t miss their presentation in the Market on Thursday, February 11th at 4pm. They will demonstrate how virtual reality offers so many new possibilities for storytelling.
Outside of Europe, Ying E Chi, an association based in Macao will be representing that part of the world. It was created by independent filmmakers in 1997, and their mission is to bring together and showcase talent, ensure that films can be seen in Hong Kong as well as abroad. They join the Hong Kong Film Centre which was present at the Short Film Market in 2015.
Finally, Lyons-based ARFIS, a school that trains students for film and audiovisual careers, will be present. A team from the school will be recording all of the presentations made by the buyers in the Forum of the Short Film Market. They will also be conducting interviews with directors of competition films. These clips can be seen on our blog La Brasserie. It’s a nice way to celebrate the upcoming merger of the regions of Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes!
The Short Film Market is also a place for conferences and meetings. Besides the buyers presentations in the Forum, there will be a number of events throughout the week. The goal is to raise the level of professionalism, make contacts, and take part in the training of crews. It’s also getting B to B advice in sessions like « Festivals in Person ». And it’s meetings between projects and producers at the meeting called « Developing My Project ». Many of these events require signing up in advance, so we recommend you check our website starting at the beginning of January!
Another piece of good news is the presence of Manuel Alduy (director of Canal OTT) for this 2016 edition. He will be speaking at what promises to be a spirited discussion on digital distribution. Should one put their short film online once it’s finished? What are the major benefits of digital regarding television? What economic models do digital platforms offer? So many subjects which have mattered to us in recent years will be raised during this talk which will be on Thursday, February 11th from 14h30-16h at the IADT.
This 31st edition of the Short Film Market will be held, as it is each year, at the Gymnase Fleury (behind the Maison de la culture), from February 6th to 12th, 2016.
