She studied at ther National University of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography in Bucharest, then began working at the Bulandra Theatre and at Bucharest’s Petit Théâtre
In 2003 she was admitted to the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Paris. Since then, she has divided her career between theater and film.
In 2005, Madalina Constantin and Alexandra Badea founded the theatre company Europ’artes. She performs texts by writers from Eastern Europe, including Biljana Srbljanovic, Matei Visniec and Nicoleta Esinencu, as well as those of Alexandra Badea, who switches between directing and writing.
Five years later, she met Anatoly Vasiliev in Rome to study Checkov’s texts and learned his method of ludic play.
That same year, she began exploring the works of Camus and Genet, as well as the texts of the contemporary writer Dieudonné Niangouna for his show Shéda which was performed at the Boulbon Quarry for the Avignon Festival in 2013
While there, she worked with the theater director Frédéric Fisbach to create Corps…, based on Alexandra Badea’s novel Zone d’amour prioritaire (The Love Projects).
She again collaborated with Fisbach on Éric Reinherdt’s Élisabeth ou l’équité (Élisabeth or Fairness) at the Théâtre du Rond-Point.
In film, she has been in several feature and television films since her time in Romania, including Gunpowder, Treason & Plot, directed for the BBC by Gillies Mackinnon
In 2008, she acted in Fanny Ardant’s first feature film, Cendres et Sang (Ashes and Blood), which was shown at the Cannes film festival the following year
She won the best actress award at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in 2013 for her role in Liova Jedlicki’s short film Solitudes.
