Cherien Dabis was born in 1976 in Omaha, Nebraska, to a Jordanian mother and a Palestinian father. She received her B.A. in creative writing and communications from the University of Cincinnati and her Master of Fine Arts in film from Columbia University in 2004. She is the co-producer and screenwriter for the television series The L World from 2005 to 2007.
In 2007, she received the Press Prize and the Special Mention from the International Jury of the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival for Atmenah (Make a Wish).
