The Collection CANAL+ 2020: Writing for genre cinema / musicals

After helping to develop twelve projects for musicals as part of the residencies at Sofilm, CANAL+ has undertaken seven original works. Pascale Faure and Brigitte Pardo, who are in charge of the channel’s short films department, worked closely with the filmmakers, composers and producers at each step of their creation. Each of the films finds a unique way of combining music and film.

These seven films make up the Collection “musicals”.

In collaboration with the CNC, CANAL+, Sacem, two regional councils and one department, the Sofilm Summercamp Festival has launched residencies for the creation of genre short films. The goal of these residencies is to foster innovative writing techniques that leave plenty of space for collective writing efforts and music. Another key feature is involving the main actors in developing the film projects very early on in the process.
