Decibels!
Oiseaux-Tempête ft. Sharif Sehnaoui, Abed Kobeissy & Ali El Hout, Bab Sharqi, by Grégoire Orio et Grégoire Couvert (2017)
Decibels! offers a new voyage that begins in Algiers with The Blaze underscored by electronic music with Territory. Next stops are the USA and Afghanistan thanks to the PJ Harvey videos for Orange Monkey and The Community of Hope, both directed by Irish photographer Seamus Murphy, who will be present this year as one of the festival’s International Jury (also Murphy’s work will be exhibited at the Hôtel Fontfreyde Centre Photographique). The trip continues on to Beirut with Oiseaux-Tempête, who teamed up with a dozen local musicians from the underground scene to create a music that mixes noise, post-rock, free-jazz and traditional music. The final stop is with Apprivoisé by the singer Calypso Valois, who has acted in films by Olivier Assayas and Anne Fontaine. She guides us to a surreal and offbeat world, directed by Bertrand Mandico. He directed the feature film Les Garçons sauvages (releasing in February 2018) and many short films including Il dit qu’il est mort… selected in Clermont-Ferrand in 2008.
