Breakfast with (OO)
An interview with Seo-Ro Oh, director of (OO)
How did you find your inspiration for (OO)?
I have been suffering from rhinitis since I was a child, and I wanted to visualize the feeling of sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion caused by it.
How did you work on the drawings ? Do you draw digitally or manually?
It is all digital and animations are mostly made with Adobe Flash.
Are you interested in emphatic figures?
I do not think there are many ways to show what I want to show clearly and quickly. When I think about the characteristics of this work, I thought it was important to deliver fast and accurate information rather than giving any interpretation space in fast transitions.
On your opinion, is imagination impulse or conscious?
Although these two factors are inevitable to create something, I would like to focus on the imagination impulse if possible. This is a more comfortable for me and an important force in completing the work. However, because I would like to lead the audience’s reaction intentionally to the work, I think it is necessary to calculate my persuasion to convince the audience.
What are your upcoming projects?
I don’t have specific plans yet, but there are many ideas. Perhaps the next is a work with a narrative where characters and worldview exist.
Would you say that the short film format has given you any particular freedom?
I can create something I want to show or something I can express in a variety of ways in a short time. Since it doesn’t need to have a huge story, and it doesn’t have to be a great message, it has infinite potentiality.
If you’ve already been to Clermont-Ferrand, could you share with us an anecdote or story from the festival? If not, what are your expectations for this year?
It is exciting and trembling to show works to many audiences and directors. I think it is the best prize if they enjoy my films.
(OO) is being shown in International Competition I14.
